Civica consolidates local government lead with acquisition of Practical Computer Services

Civica acquires Queensland-based Practical Computer Services consolidating market lead
Local government software vendor Civica Pty Ltd has acquired Queensland-based Practical Computer Services Pty Ltd’s local government business.

The acquisition includes Practical’s existing local government customer base,
intellectual property rights to the company’s local government software applications and all associated assets.

Along with a significant increase in market presence, Civica gains 30 qualified IT staff experienced in local government solutions. The acquisition positions Civica as the leading supplier of software and services to local government with more than 250 local authorities using Civica applications across all states and provinces of Australia and New Zealand.

Practical’s customer service and development staff bring a wealth of additional local government experience to Civica and will continue to provide ongoing support for the Practical applications in line with existing arrangements.

The Practical staff will remain in the Toowoomba premises, which will become Civica’s Queensland headquarters. Civica has nine offices throughout Australia and New Zealand, providing customers with a local presence in each of the geographic regions.

Chief Executive Officer, Civica International, Peter Anderson, says: “This acquisition is a very exciting strategic development for our local government business and is in line with our commitment to continually expanding our presence in the local government industry.

“Practical’s local government customers are located predominantly in Queensland and NSW and this acquisition provides an excellent opportunity to build our presence in the Queensland local government market.  It clearly establishes Civica as the leading supplier to this sector.”

Civica also announced today the acquisition of Electionz.com’s local government business in New Zealand.  Acquiring the Christchurch-based company gives Civica a strong South Island presence, adding further momentum to its fast-expanding NZ customer base.

The announcements follow Civica’s acquisition of Fujitsu’s local authorities business in Australia and New Zealand in May 2008 and a spate of new contract wins in the past 12 months.

“Our current success and growth is further evidence that the market has a high level of confidence in Civica’s ability to provide a secure, long-term solution that delivers excellent value to Councils,” said Peter Anderson.

Civica is a global provider of software, consulting and managed services to the public sector providing solutions to more than 1,800 customers worldwide and employing more than 1,350 staff.

Civica is totally committed to the Local Government industry and has a strong history and high level of expertise, with more than 25 years’ experience within the sector. More than 250 Councils throughout Australia and New Zealand currently use the company’s local government software applications.
